School Choice Information

The School Committee voted to open four (4) seats at the kindergarten level for the 2013-2014 school year.  The lottery to fill those seats occurred Monday, April 29th.  All School Choice seats for the 2013-14 school year are currently full.
There is no information available regarding possible openings for future years.

School Choice Process:

The Longmeadow Public Schools participates in the School Choice program.  The school choice program allows parents to send their children to schools in communities other than the city or town in which they reside. Tuition is paid by the sending district to the receiving district. Districts may elect not to enroll school choice students if no space is available.

Each year, the School Committee studies the anticipated enrollment for the coming school year and decides if they will accept new School Choice students.  If the School Committee decides to accept new School Choice students for the upcoming school year, they also decide how many new students and what grade level(s).  Applications will only be accepted for students entering the grades where openings are available.  The School Committee conducts a lottery with all valid applications received by the application deadline.  Applications that are received in a number in excess of the available openings will be placed on a waiting list.  Applicants that are placed on a waitlist must reapply in subsequent years; waitlists do not carry forward from one year to the next.  Students that are accepted to attend the Longmeadow Public Schools, may continue their educational career until they graduate or voluntarily decide to withdraw.

Prior to acceptance to the Longmeadow Public Schools through the School Choice program, student records, including a student's discipline record, may be reviewed.
