Longmeadow-- The Longmeadow School Committee will be holding a public forum on its new Social Networking and Electronic Communication Policy, Wednesday October 24, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Glenbrook Middle School Auditorium--located at 110 Cambridge Circle, Longmeadow, MA 01106. Longmeadow School Committee Chairperson, Michael Clark, who has written the policy, will host a forum to solicit comments from the community. The Social Networking and Electronic Communication Policy, which has been under development for nearly a year, received a first reading by the Longmeadow School Committee during its October 9th, 2012 meeting. Per the policy of the Longmeadow School Committee this policy will remain posted to the District’s website for 30 days, at which time the community will have the opportunity to comment on this policy. Clark, who touts this policy as among the most progressive in the Commonwealth, will present this policy to the Massachusetts Association of School Committee’s at their annual conference in Hyannis this coming November. “We’ve tried to approach this issue head on. Because it’s such a new area, schools have had a hard time reacting quickly or appropriately to social media. While many districts ban its use outright, we have taken a different approach, we are looking to include it within the curriculum to help develop digital citizenship. We are hoping that this policy becomes a standard for districts across the Commonwealth.” For more information on the forum, email Michael Clark at Mclark@longmeadow.k12.ma.us or contact the District Office at 413-565-4200 ext 4012. |
